- First Pitch Turner Field. The first pitch at Turner Field for a regular season game was thrown by Atlanta Braves pitcher Denny Neagle on April 4, 1997. The Braves won the game against the Chicago Cubs 5-4. The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by Ted Turner, then-owner of the Atlanta Braves. The first batter faced was Brian McRae of the Chicago Cubs. Chipper Jones recorded the first regular season hit at Turner Field with a single to left field in the bottom of the first inning.
